The Influence of Ridge Height and Rain Sheltering Tunnel on Disease Occurrence of Field - grown Watermelon

Abstract
These experiments were carried out to study the influence of ridge height and rain sheltering tunnel on disease occurrence of watermelon in open culture. The change of soil moisture content at ridge height 40 §¯ was bigger than other treatments, such as 0 §¯, 10 §¯ and 20 §¯. There were a little effects on growth characteristics and fruit qualities among these treatments. The damaged leaf ratio by anthracnose was 9.4% and 11.6% less at ridge height of 20 §¯ and 40 §¯ than at 10 §¯, and that of gummy stem blight also was 7.0% and 7.2% less at ridge height of 20 §¯ and 40 §¯, respectively than at 10 §¯. Growth characteristics according to rain sheltering tunnel and non-rain sheltering tunnel in different cropping system of watermelon was not significantly different, but fruit weight was heavier at rain sheltering tunnel than non-rain sheltering one. In semi-open culture, the damaged leaf ratio by anthracnose and gummy stem blight occurred 10.7% and 1.5% less in rain sheltering tunnel than in non-rain sheltering one, and also in open culture, the damaged leaf ratio by anthracnose and gummy stem blight occurred 9.3% and 4.8% less respectively in rain sheltering tunnel than in non-rain sheltering one. The mortality ratio was 3.8% less in rain sheltering tunnel of semi-open culture and 5.1% less in rain sheltering tunnel of open culture than in non-rain sheltering tunnel of semi-open culture and open culture.
